Welcome to my Photography pages. I've enjoyed camera work since age 10 when on a field trip to San Gabriel Mission I shot the bell tower and couldn't wait to get the prints back from the drugstore. I was inspired by Eugene Atget, Robert Doisneau, Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Ansel Adams,Yousuf Karsh, and Helmut Newton. I still love a good black and white image with rich tones and strong contrast.
Slide films with their saturated colors intrigued me for years as I learned the way colors affect our eyes and emotions.
Kodak Portra color films became my standard for weddings shot on my medium format camera for true skin tones.
I studied with John Lodato at Laney College using 35mm, 6x4.5mm, and 4x5 view cameras, doing all my B&W darkroom work. It was a wonderful time of learning composition and technique.
I was slow to embrace digital photography but now am very comfortable with the versatility and immediate feedback it affords. I continue to learn Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and Nik software to refine my images.
I am currently active in the Contra Costa Camera Club, a great place to share and learn. Photography is a lifelong pursuit of expression and growth. Thanks & Cheers, Stephen
